Avetik Isahakyan House-Museum


The house museum of the Armenian great poet, novelist, translator, literary-public figure, and public speaker Avetik Isahakian is on the nice-looking and peaceful Zarobian street parallel to Baghramian Avenue. The last ten years of his life he lived in this house.



 

 Avetik Isahakian’s house was changed into his house museum with the purpose to immortalize the name of the eminent Armenian poet.





The main function of the house museum of Avetik Isahakian is to protect and pass to further generations the sacred relics and material evidence connected with the name of the great poet and bear the sign of his creative hand. 

Today the memorial museum of Avetik Isahakian is one of the well-known cultural centers in the capital where thousands of Armenians and foreigners come to visit. Various interesting events: scientific readings, literary-musical events, disputes, presentations of books, open lessons, concerts, temporary exhibitions, and meetings with eminent people of science and culture are always organized in the museum. 
Every year in May, the museum actively takes part in the international action of “Museum Night”, the initiative of the museums of France, within the framework of which various events and exhibitions are held in the memorial museum. 




Works

Between 1899 and 1906 he wrote "The Songs of Haiduks", a compilation of poems that became the first creation within classical Armenian poetry dedicated to the Armenian freedom struggle.

His poems are those of love and sorrow. His best work is "Abu-Lala Mahari", while his other well-known works include "Songs and Novels" and "The Mother's Heart". Being a romantic, Isahakyan was best known for his verse "On the Bridge of Realto" dedicated to his first love. During the Second World War of 1941–1945, he wrote patriotic poems like "Martial Call" (1941), "My Heart is at the Mountains' Top" (1941), "To the Undying Memory of S.G. Zakyan" (1942), "The Day of the Great Victory" (1945) and many other. His creative work, filled with humanism, and a great respect to the human dignity, is deeply connected with the history and culture of the Armenian people, embracing the best traditions of the Russian and the World literature. 

Isahakyan's works have been translated into many languages and his poems have been used as lyrics for new songs.

Derenik Demirchyan House-Museum

  Derenik Demirchyan House-Museum , a branch of the Museum of Literature and Art  named after Eghishe Charents , has 670 main and about the same amount of scientific subsidiary objects which present the long-standing creative life of the writer.   It is the apartment of the famous writer, playwright, and public figure D. Demirchyan (1877-1956) in Yerevan, where he lived from 1929 until his death. As a House Museum, it acts since 1977.  There the visitors can not get acquainted with the life and work of the Honored Art Worker of the Armenian SSR, prominent writer, and great master of Armenian prose Derenik Demirchyan. The museum consists of a memorial section (cabinet, living room, and bedroom) and an exhibition hall.
